24 associations and centers participate in the twenty-first edition of 'A Sea of Possibilities'

24 associations and centers participate in the twenty-first edition of 'A Sea of Possibilities'

5th November 2024 by Agencies

Over more than 100 days of activity, 150 recreational-therapeutic sessions were held, with 380 users from 24 associations and centers on the island participating. The recreational-therapeutic and sports program has, as every year, leveraged the healing power of nature and sports to assist people from groups at risk of social exclusion.

The sea as therapy remains the basic foundation of an initiative that has enhanced the participation of sectors at risk of social exclusion, incorporating the Sa Jovería center, consolidating the activity of solidarity sailing on the "Saga" vessel - a period schooner whose collaboration has been greatly celebrated by organizers and users - and adding new associations like the Asperger one with which family participation dynamics have been launched. In the same relational area, the City Council of Eivissa successfully boosted the participation of caregivers and users of the Home Assistance Service. Moreover, the participation of geriatric centers managed by the Foundation for Care and Support for Dependency, Can Blai and Sa Serra, has been restored.

This year, thanks to a donation by Mariano Ferrer, from Calzados Ferrer, of a sailing boat "Fortuna 9" - named Sargantana - we also recover our projects of "inclusive cruising sailing." This class is incorporated in collaboration with ADDIF at the competition level and is extended to other sectors, such as mental health, and as a support activity for other associations and centers that request it. This vessel will have its own sponsors who will guarantee its maintenance and shelter, sponsors who will soon be revealed and with whom it is hoped to include them in the structural root of the program. We hope that this type of sailing will provide excellent results not only at a care level directly with the users, but also as a consolidation and stimulation of care teams. This section that attends to the need to "care for the caregiver" is of relevant importance, as by caring for the caregiver, we care for the people they look after, a goal that is not achieved solely with monetary stimulus.

The results of the actions of this year's edition will be fully reported at the official closing event, scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, where the support of the sponsors: the Abel Matutes Foundation, Valoriza M.A., and Caixabank, and the institutions such as the Consell d’Eivissa and the Municipalities of Eivissa, Santa Eulària, Sant Antoni, Sant Josep, and Sant Joan will be thanked. An event where the successes and shared experiences of a reference program whose managers are already planning the major challenges to overcome in the upcoming actions for the winter and the 2025 season will be presented.
