The Minister of the Sea and Water Cycle of the Balearic Government, Juan Manuel Lafuente; the General Director of Ports and Transport, Antoni Mercant, and the manager of PortsIB, Kiko Villalonga, presented yesterday, April 2, the demolition of the existing building at the port of Cala Ratjada and the construction of the new multipurpose building.

Representatives from the government team of the Ajuntament de Capdepera were also present at the event, who wanted to accompany the start of this strategic action for the municipality.

The project, awarded to the company Vilor Infraestructuras S.L., has a budget of 2,284,032.30 euros (VAT included) and a timeline of 12 months for completion. The contract was awarded after a competitive process in which the company scored the highest. The action is part of PortsIB's strategy to modernize and improve the port infrastructures of the Balearics, ensuring more functional spaces suited to the needs of the nautical sector and the citizenry.

The works include the demolition of the current building and the construction of a new space that will offer services adapted to the port activity and the users of the port of Cala Ratjada. The new building will have an optimized layout to accommodate various facilities, facilitating port operations and improving service to maritime sector professionals and visitors.

On the ground floor, with an area of 361 m², the kitchen and the canteen's storeroom will be located, along with four ticket sales points for the boats, six small storage spaces, bathrooms, and a porch that will provide shade to the ticket sales area. The first floor, with an area of 343 m², will house the canteen and a terrace with views of the harbor. The space layout will improve the operability of the port, avoiding interference between tourist activities and fishing and sports activities.

The building has been designed as a transition between the town and the harbor, integrating harmoniously into the environment. On the upper level, connected to the promenade, the restaurant activity will be developed, while on the lower level, the port's operational activities will be organized. In addition to the new construction and demolition of the current building, the removal of part of the pavements and urban furniture and the installation of new elements adapted to the current configuration of the port will be carried out.

The design of the new multipurpose building was conceived with sustainability and energy efficiency criteria in mind. Environmentally friendly materials will be used, and construction solutions will be implemented to reduce energy consumption and improve integration with the port environment. Measures have also been considered to minimize the environmental impact during the construction phase, ensuring proper waste management and compliance with current regulations.

During the presentation of the works, Minister Lafuente highlighted the importance of this investment to enhance the infrastructure of the port of Cala Ratjada and reinforce its role within the Balearic port network. "This project not only improves the port's services but also contributes to the economic and tourist development of the area, offering a modern and functional space," he noted.

For his part, Antoni Mercant emphasized PortsIB's commitment to the continuous improvement of port infrastructures, focusing on modernizing facilities and optimizing available resources. "With this action, we respond to the current needs of the port, ensuring its competitiveness and its capacity to accommodate professionals and users in the best conditions," he stated.

This project is part of PortsIB's investment plan for the renovation and modernization of autonomously managed ports, aiming to ensure quality facilities, adapted to the needs of the sector and aligned with environmental demands. The action in Cala Ratjada represents a further step in this line of work, consolidating the port as a strategic point within the Balearic port system.
