The Board of Directors of Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), meeting on April 1, has approved the conditions that will govern the management of the Cala’n Bosch marina (Menorca) starting next May 3, the date on which the current administrative concession that has been in effect since 1995 expires. The current concessionaire entity will continue to provide the port service on a provisional basis until a new concession title is awarded, with a maximum term of one year.

In this context, and given certain information published in the last few hours that could lead to confusion about the future management of the port, PortsIB considers it necessary to clarify that this continuity in management will be developed under a series of prescriptions expressly regulated by the public entity itself, with the aim of guaranteeing the public interest, protecting the rights of the users, and ensuring the stability of the service.

The main measures agreed upon by the Board of Directors are:

  • Priority for vessels based at the port, which will be able to maintain their current moorings.
  • Prohibition of mooring transfers for periods longer than one month, and without the possibility of demanding advance rates for more than that time.
  • Establishment of maximum rates, which will be set directly by PortsIB based on the new situation of provisional management.
  • Determination of the occupation and use fees, also under the supervision of PortsIB.

Additionally, it is reminded that any controversy that may arise during this period will be resolved by PortsIB, as the competent authority. This way, any unilateral action by the current concessionaire is avoided, and it is ensured that the transitional management conforms to legal principles and equity.

PortsIB continues working on the procedure for awarding a new concession, in accordance with the principles of competition, equality, and transparency, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable port management model oriented towards public service.
