A bubble barrier, the solution to prevent dumping at sea

Equiport has installed the O2 Marine underwater bubble barrier at Port Tarraco. This technology makes it possible to act quickly and efficiently in the event of a spill, preventing it from escaping into the sea and causing damage to the ecosystem. It is also used to improve the quality of port water, as in the case of Port Tarraco.

This pioneering technology uses a novel combination of compressed air and submerged tubes, which generate a bubble barrier that acts as a means of controlling floating waste and pollution in the water, while revitalizing stagnant waters such as those in Tarragona's inner harbour. In this way it promotes marine life and improves the quality of the ecosystem. 

The underwater bubble barrier installed by Equiport brings significant benefits to Port Tarraco: 

-Oxygenation of the water: the generation of bubbles increases the levels of dissolved oxygen in the water, essential for the health of aquatic organisms, and at the same time improves the quality of the water in stagnant environments. 

-Environmental protection: By preventing the entry of solid waste and pollutants, the barrier protects marine life and preserves local ecosystems. 

-Operational efficiency: The reduction of debris in the harbour minimizes the need for manual cleaning and reduces the risk of obstruction of port facilities, thus improving operational efficiency. 

The O2 Marine technology is designed to reduce the impact of spills in port areas and is activated immediately, unlike traditional absorbent barriers which require a reaction time of about 25 minutes. Or it can also be used simply to improve water quality.

This is a further step for Port Tarraco, which has a continuous commitment to sustainability and is in constant search for energy and environmental efficiency. Together with the Port Authority, platforms have already been installed in the water, called Ocean ecostructures, to regenerate marine diversity, two skimmers have been installed to clean the water surface and a sustainable mobility programme is currently being developed.
