A demanding 2nd Spanish Olympic Sprint Cup puts the Balearic paddlers to the test in Seville

This weekend the II Spanish Olympic Sprint Cup was held at the Centro Especializado de Alto Rendimiento de Remo y Piragüismo La Cartuja in Seville.

Balearic paddlers travelled there, including a team from Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, formed by Noel López, Raúl Prendes, Ilhan Velasco and Álvaro Rubio, all of them junior kayakers and members of the Ibiza Canoeing Follow-up Programme, a sports project of the Consell Insular d'Eivissa. And paddlers from the Club de Vela Puerto Andratx, including the team formed by María Reus, María Paraja, Daniela García and Irene Lata in K4, who won silver and qualified for the European Championships in Bratislava, on the banks of the Danube.

The pair formed by María Reus and María Paraja in K2, got the sixth position and María Reus in K1, reached the semifinals of the Cup in fourth place and the final B, finally concluding the national event in tenth place sub 23.

The four junior CNSA athletes achieved the following results in this encouraging first season in the category: Raúl Prendes-Ilhan Velasco-Álvaro Rubio and Noel López, seventh in the Final A K-4 500 metres; Raúl Prendes-Noel López, sixth in the Final B K-2 500 metres; Ilhan Velasco-Álvaro Rubio, sixth in the Final C K-2 500 metres, and Noel López and Raúl Prendes, 4th and 7th, respectively, in the Final C K-1 1000 metres.

From now on, it is time to prepare the last stage of the track season, with an eye on the most important objective: the Spanish Olympic Sprint Championship, which will be held in the Trasona reservoir (Asturias) in mid-July.
