Salou and Santa Ponça will partner up, one more year, through the Regata Rei En Jaume, which will be contested from the 8th to the 10th of September. The 37th edition will be celebrated in the sea of the Balearic Islands and Cataluña, specifically between Salou (Tarragona) and Santa Ponça (Calvià), a route approximately of 110 miles.

It is a re-enactment that tries to fit the historical events of the itinerary it led, in 1229, of Jaume I to the island of Panteleu to achieve later on the majorcan coastline and begin the conquest. For this reason, the exit will be at the entrance of the Club Náutico Salou and the finish line is located at the Freu de Dragonera.

In this XXXVII edition, the fleet is made by boats with certificates of ORC, Classics, A2 and Solitaries. The classifications will be established by categories and teams, and also it will be possible to make a ranking by clubs represented by the teams on boats of less than 50 feet and another of more than 50.

The organizers expect a fleet of about 12 or 15 ships,  of which the majority will be of catalonian crew members. The director of the Regata Rei En Jaume, Manuel Nadal de Uhler  has explained that “this year's participation is slightly lower than in previous years because the dates coincide with some of the events in the America's Cup calendar, which is held in Barcelona”.

The race is one of the five competitions that are part of the Altitude Circuit and one can follow this development through the webpage of the Club Náutico Santa Poça thanks to the sailing-tracking system that equips all participating boats with GPS devices.

The sport program of the race will start this Friday, 8th of September, with the reunion of the employers and the welcome dinner of the participants of the CN of Salou. The Saturday, 9th of September, the participating boats will gather in the bay of the Catalonian town, from where the start of the race is scheduled. The ceremony of the awarding of the trophies will be the 10th of September at Port Adriano.

The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual,  has highlighted the importance of maintaining the tradition and he has assured that “we believe that a race of this size, with the tradition it has, it is very important to maintain and reinforce it so that it can have a development beyond the current participants and that it can multiply in the future". He also described it as an enormous experience as a sailor, as more than 30 years ago, he made the crossing of approximately 24 hours.
