A new edition of Es Nàutic's Sea Week comes to an end

A new edition of Es Nàutic's Sea Week comes to an end

15th April 2024 by Agencies

The 29th edition of the Setmana del Mar, organised by the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni (CNSA), came to an end on Friday with the participation of the pupils of the Guillem de Montgrí school, winners of the entry competition.

They did so with a very special activity: participating in the scientific project of sighting and recovery of sharks Shark Med. They also shared the experience with students from IES Xarc, who are part of the APS Badia de Portmany programme.

After several postponements due to weather conditions, the president of the Shark Med initiative, Agustí Torres, went to the Es Nàutic facilities with the aim of installing a BRUV device ("Baited Remote Underwater Video Systems"). It will remain anchored 4 miles west of Ses Bledes, where it will capture images for a week.

Es Nàutic is collaborating by providing logistical support for the initiative, with boats and staff. The action, in fact, is part of the APS Badía de Portmany programme that is being developed at the club with different schools. For this reason, the students of IES Es Xarc have been the lucky ones to see live the implementation of the operation and its monitoring, along with the schoolchildren of Guillem de Montgrí. The support includes a tank in which tuna is installed as bait, which has to be changed every two days, with the aim of attracting the sharks, which are generally blue sharks. Curiously, this animal coincides with the mascot that the Guillem de Montgrí School presented to the entry competition.

A good gift to end this edition of the Setmana del Mar, which comes to an end after 11 weeks in which 250 students from 11 schools have been welcomed. The closing of the Setmana del Mar will be celebrated with a very special day, which will take place on the 24th of April, in the Caló de S'Oli Auditorium.  On the 16th, in addition, the activity 'Un dia a la mar' (A day at sea) will begin, aimed at the students of the schools that were not selected, and which will last until the 30th of April.
