STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERAENIB calls for the responsible parties to be brought to justice, ensuring that such incidents do not occur again in the future. The incident took place last Sunday, when members of the organisation Futuro Vegetal poured paint on the mega yacht Kaos, owned by Nancy Walton Laurie, the heiress of the Walmart company.
In addition to expressing their strong condemnation at these deplorable events, AENIB highlights that nautical sector in Spain consists of around 3,700 companies (including self- employed workers) providing employment to approximately 19,700 people and generating operating revenues of more than 3,000 million euros annually. Specifically, in the Balearic Islands, the sector generates an operating income of 400 million euros and a GVA (Gross Value Added) of 171 million euros, accounting for approximately 40% of the industrial GDP. It employs 17% of the population, providing jobs to 3,000 highly qualified professionals. Therefore, the sector significantly contributes to generating wealth and offering high-paying, quality employment, with GVA and employment multipliers that have a positive impact on the economy and create beneficial effects on other sectors through the purchase of good and services.
AENIB warns that this type of vandalism seriously compromises the Balearic Island´s image as one of the leading nautical destinations in the Mediterranean. This could potentially harm employment opportunities and the overall conomy of the Islands, especially considering that the Balearics serve as a strategic nautical hub for boat maintenance and repair. Consequently, the competent authorities must take the necessary actions to ensure that those responsible face appropriate penalties and to prevent any similar incidents in the future.
Lastly, AENIB emphasizes the whole sector´s unwavering dedication to sustainability and environment. This commitment is evident through numerous initiatives undertaken by various entities and companies within the sector.
