After three days of competition, the Balearic Optimist Championship finished yesterday in the bay of Portmany. In the end, the sailors were able to compete in seven races, as they were unable to start yesterday due to the excessive wind. Es Nàutic, organizer of the event, managed to climb the podium twice, as Candela Martín and Flavia Cavattoni were second in the sub13 and sub11 female categories, respectively.

As for the overall classification, the regatta had a clearly feminine popularity, as Amalia Coll (CN S'Arenal) won, followed by Sean Sadler (CN S'Arenal) and Laia Mattos (CMSAP Can Pastilla).

In the sub15 female category, the podium went to Amalia Coll (CN S'Arenal), followed by Laia Mattos (CMSAP Can Pastilla) and Beatriz Quintana (CN Cala Gamba). In the sub15 men's category, the top three were Sean Sadler (CN S'Arenal), Juan Benítez (RCN Puerto Pollença) and Lucas Montoya (CN S'Arenal).

In the sub13 female class, the podium was occupied by Emma Frau (RCNP), followed by Candela Martín (CNSA) and Mary Anne Osha (RCNP). In the sub13 male class, the first three classified were Marc Provensal (RCN Puerto Pollença), Alonso Coronado (CMSAP Can Pastilla) and Juan Palou (RCN Palma).

In the sub11 women's category, the first two classified were María Martorell (CMSAP Can Pastilla) and Flavia Cavattoni (CNSA), while in the men's category, Gerard Ribas (CN Ibiza) came first, followed by Mario Coronado (CMSAP Can Pastilla) and Ignacio Pardo (CM Mahón).

A total of 89 sailors from Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza took part, and in addition to the most important provincial title of the season, they also competed to qualify for the national championships. Only a total of 17 sailors will form part of the regional team, which in turn will compete to qualify for the international events.

In the island phases of the qualification system, 250 sailors have participated, who competed in their first competition in November last year, with the Federation Cup held in Palma, the city where the last round of the Balearic ranking will also take place, with the final of the Jocs Escolars, on the 16th and 17th of March. With these three regattas, including this weekend's, a classification is obtained in which the top 15, plus another two at technical criteria, form the team that will represent the Balearic Islands in the Spanish Cup and Championship. These will take place between the 25th and 30th of March at the Real Club de Regatas de Alicante, and between the 28th of April and the 1st of May at the Club de Mar de Almería, respectively.
