Balearic assault to the U23 podium of the IQFoil World Cup

There was a desire for the World Championship and it was not necessary to wait for the third one to be the last one. Lanzarote has hosted the first races of the iQFOiL World Championship, which opens with four completed races in slalom format in the case of men, five for women.

It has been a long and productive day with a wind that has ranged between 10 and 15 knots, gusty at times, and with a change of race course, which has gone from being in front of the marina to in front of the Papagayo beach.

With two seconds, a third and a 13th that he was able to discard, the sailor from Club Nàutic S'Arenal, Bernat Tomàs is the best Spaniard of the day. The Mallorcan is happy with the eleventh place in a classification made up of 118 sailors: "I'm in a good position so I'll try to keep up, and if I can improve then great".

The "iqfoiler" of the Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita and future Spanish Olympic representative, Nacho Baltasar has also signed a good day with a 3-15-4-3 partial that leaves him in the provisional 18th place.

With the place in Paris assured, the Mallorcan takes off pressure and does not forget that you also have to enjoy: “When we started the season the goal at the results level was to enter the Medal Race because in the Olympics everything is also going to be played in the last race, so the more experience you have, the better. But on the other hand, this World Championship is perfect to try to enjoy as much as possible because now I don't have as much pressure as when we were playing for a place. Now that the selection is over, I'm more relaxed. Obviously, I'm pushing harder than before, but with the security of having the place.”

Six points behind in first place is Pilar Lamadrid with another great day: 2-2-(3)-1-2. The Spaniard is well prepared in her fight to be the Spanish representative in Paris 2024. Her teammate and main rival in this sense, Nicole van der Velden, started the day very well with a second, but it went wrong in the following rounds with 8-10-8-24 positions.

The program for Wednesday includes new races in the race courses located in front of the Marina Rubicón breakwater, from where the competition can be seen.
