This sporting event, one of the most important on the national apnea calendar, brought together the best athletes in the country, and the representatives from the Balearics did not disappoint, achieving several podium finishes and breaking regional records.

Athletes in the outdoor apnea competition have a single attempt at immersion per day, spread over the two days of the championship. The day before, each athlete announces the exact depth they will attempt to reach in their next dive and in which modality, adding a strategic component to the competition. During the descent, freedivers must control their breathing and employ advanced relaxation techniques to reach the announced marks without external assistance, using only their lung capacity.

This championship featured four modalities in both the men’s and women’s categories. All of them were constant weight, meaning no ballast was varied during the immersion.

In the men’s category, David Phillips, with a mark of 82 meters in the CWT-BF discipline (constant weight with bi-fins) and 72 meters in CWT (constant weight), won two silver medals and established two new Balearic records. Cosmi Noguera reached 71 meters in FIM (free immersion), earning him the bronze medal, the title of Champion of Spain, and a Balearic record, improving his previous mark.

Tomeu Morey achieved a depth of 49 meters in CNF (no fins descent), winning the bronze medal and securing third place in Spain, along with a Balearic record. Alejandro Tintoré managed 63 meters in FIM, proclaiming himself the runner-up of Spain in this discipline. Juanan Servera, with a mark of 62 meters in CWT-BF, positioned himself as third in Spain.

In the women’s category, Andrea Felani reached 70 meters in CWT and 37 meters in CNF. Her excellent performance earned her the silver medal in CNF, fourth place in CWT, and two new Balearic records.

With these results, the Balearic team achieved a remarkable second position in the regional standings, finishing just behind the host Canary Islands and surpassing other communities with a strong tradition in this sport, such as Catalonia and Andalusia.
