Balearic Nautical Sector Closes the Season Down, But Maintains National Leadership

Despite the setback in registrations, the Balearic nautical market continues to lead at the national level. During the first nine months of the year, 822 recreational boats were registered in the Islands, representing a decrease of 16.46% compared to the 984 units registered in the same period of 2023.

However, the Balearics have increased their share in the national nautical market, reaching a quota of 18.24% of the total registrations in Spain, according to the "Report on the recreational boating market. January-September 2024", prepared by ANEN from data provided by the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy .

Nationally, registrations fell by 17.4%, with a total of 4,506 boats registered until September, compared to 5,453 in the same period in 2023. The Balearic Islands remain the leading province, followed by Barcelona with a share of 11.07% and Madrid, which accumulates 6.75% of the national market .

Regarding the charter market, the Balearics experienced a decrease of 23.28%, registering 445 registrations of boats intended for rental, compared to 580 the previous year. Despite this drop, the Islands continue to be the epicenter of the rental market in Spain, capturing 27.17% of national registrations for charter, ahead of Barcelona, with 11.78%, and Girona, which stands at 8.73% .
