The first place was claimed by Joshua Castro, who demonstrated great consistency, winning five of the fifteen races contested and finishing in the Top 10 in nine others. His teammate Biel Martorell added to the success with a runner-up position, showcasing his magnificent sailing skills by winning one race and securing second place in four others. The bronze medal went to fellow Mallorcan Joan Servera from Club Nàutic S'Arenal.
The competition was held over four days at the lake in the Hungarian town of Balatonföldvár. The wind, which started off mild, strengthened as the days went by, prompting the organizers to complete the program ahead of schedule. Both Joshua and Biel adapted well to the changing conditions on the racecourse. This consistency led them to capture the top podium positions in a category with 72 participants from 11 countries, 37 of them male.
The two medals won by the young Mallorcan sailors from Can Pastilla mark a milestone and reflect the commitment that their club has made in recent years to the Windsurfing classes, taking advantage of the quick access to the sea offered by their facilities, which house one of the three annual sub-venues of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía Iberostar.
Notably, Joshua Castro and Biel Martorell have been champion and runner-up, respectively, in all the competitions they have participated in this season: the Balearic Championship, the Spanish Cup, the Spanish Championship, and now the World Championship. Their coaches are Albert Serra and José Mayans.
The world champion and runner-up were welcomed on Sunday, July 28, at Palma airport, upon their arrival from a flight from Barcelona, by their families, club officials, and fellow club members.
