The Finn is a single-handed sailing vessel that was an Olympic class from the Helsinki 1952 Olympics to the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The Continental Championship will be held in the waters of Naples, Italy, from April 6 to April 12.
April 7 and 8 are dedicated to the inspections of the competing vessels, while the races will start next Tuesday, April 8, and the championship will conclude on Saturday, April 12, with 10 scheduled races that will determine the new European Champion of the Finn class.
123 competitors from 21 different countries will gather at this high-level event, where the Ibizans are participating, for the second time, in a European championship in this class.
In a continental competition of this magnitude, many nations are contenders for a medal, although it is not ruled out that the Ibizans could perform well if the wind is light to moderate.
The favorites for the final victory are the Italian Alessandro Marega, current champion of the specialty, the Frenchman Valieran Lebrun, runner-up in the last edition held in Cannes, or Felipe Silva, the Portuguese who sails for the Club Naval de Cascais.
Undoubtedly a top-level challenge for the Ibizan sailors, who already have a broad track record. For instance, Jordi Tur won third place in the team world championship of the Optimist class, as well as two runner-up titles in Spain. Alejandro Cardona was notable in the last Spanish Championship of the specialty as the master runner-up of Spain, and Adrián Bedoya also has a long career, being seventh overall in the last national championship held in the waters of the Náutico Los Alcázares club (Mar Menor) and 39th in the last European.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that the waters of Ibiza have been chosen by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation to organize the next National Championship of the Finn class in October 2025, under the organization of Club Náutico Ibiza which this year celebrates its centenary as one of the oldest sports entities on the island.
