The big part of waste that was collected were microplastics, but also they found parts of a metal staircase, cans and other materials at the surface and at the bottom of the sea, according to Puerto Portals said in a statement.
The Blue Marine Clean-Up started at 17:00h from the Escuela de Vela of Puerto Portals and has pushed to get its area clean.
From Puerto Portals they recalled that every year eight million tons of plastic get dumped at the ocean and the participants of the Escuela de Vela pick up around 350 kilos of waste on the coastline every summer.
The action takes part in the Blue Marina movement that Puerto Portals has started this year with the collaboration of Mar de Fondo, with the objective to transform the way the workers, users and clients work around our surroundings.
Furthermore, they look to convert the zone to “change of motor that is coherent, responsible and aware of the environment, and locate it among one of the sustainable marinas of the Mediterranean''.
