The awards, given by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE), which is under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, are based on the internationally recognized ISO quality standard. Just like in 2023, Calvià again holds 15 Q flags, making it the top municipality in the Balearic Islands and third in Spain, following Marbella (19) and Sanxenxo (16). The recognition was received on behalf of the City Council by the general director of Tourism of the council, Carmen Peñas.
The 15 Q-flag beaches are: Buganvilia, Illetes Balneario, Cala Comtessa, Portals Nous, El Oratorio, Es Carregador, Palmanova, Son Maties, Magaluf, Cala Vinyes, Las Peñas Rojas (El Toro), Santa Ponça, and La Romana, Torà, and Palmira, the last three being in Peguera.
The process to qualify for a Q flag involves passing an independent audit that certifies compliance with the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and safety. This includes meeting the requirements and parameters established both in management and in the control of procedures and work carried out on the beaches.
