Calvià puts out to tender the beach services to extend and improve the season

The Calvià Town Hall has published in the State Contracting Platform the tender documents for the exploitation of the beaches of the municipality, whose activity must be combined with the environmental improvement of the coastal environment, "promoting the enjoyment and public use by all groups". The facilities for the operation of the services have been grouped into 14 lots, following criteria of effectiveness and efficiency.

The new beach contract, which comes after 15 years of concession, introduces important new features, such as the extension of services from 15th of March to the 30th of November, or the possibility of booking sun loungers and parasols in person or via a mobile app.

According to the report drawn up by a municipal technician, the tender has been delayed due, among other reasons, to the fact that the previous government team had not defined the design concept for the beaches in November 2022 and that the team drafting the specifications did not have the support of the area of Roads and Works of the previous legislature for the execution of the plans for the temporary facilities.

The City Council has tried to complete specifications that respect the environment and the surroundings, so that the maximum occupation by authorized installations of any type will not exceed 45% of the surface area of the beach. In addition, in some cases, Balinese beds have been introduced, installed at the back of the beaches to encourage the use of an area that is usually underused. In any case, no temporary installation prevents or hinders the public and the use of the beach. Nautical installations such as paddle surf, electric paddle surf, canoes and pedal boats may not occupy more than 10% of the total length of the beach. With regard to the environment, the specifications eliminate all motorized elements.

The opening hours during the high season (July and August) will be from 10:00h to 19:30h, while in the medium season (May, June, September and October) it will be from 10:00h to 18:00h, and in the low season from 11:00h to 16:00h. The latter timetable will be in force from 15th of March to the end of April and during the month of November. These are, in any case, compulsory minimum services, with a maximum closing time of 22.00 hours. Bars and kiosks will close at midnight. 

In any case, the specifications also include the obligation to provide a reactive lifeguard out of season or out of hours. With these new beach specifications, the Calvià Town Hall reinforces its commitment to keep the services operative most of the year.
