The "Wanderlust" (RI1), the "Lampo Rosso" (RI2) and the "Kresal" (RI3) were the winners of the Balearic RI Cruising Championship, which ended this Sunday in the waters of the Bay of Alcúdia and was held under the organization of the Club Nàutic Can Picafort. A total of 25 boats representing eight clubs from the islands took part in the competition.

The regional competition consisted of three races. On Saturday, two short windward/leeward races were held, while on Sunday, the sailboats had to complete a coastal course of about 12 miles starting at the CN Can Picafort and passing by two buoys located in Aucanada and in front of the Puente de los Ingleses (Bridge of the English).

During these two days, the wind blew from the Embat with medium intensity. Sunday's race started with about 10 knots and the wind gradually increased in strength, reaching peaks of close to 20 knots, which made for a very fast and lively regatta.

In the RI1 category there was an exciting duel between "Wanderlust" of the CN Ciutadella, of Josep Pons, and "S'Indio III" of the CN Sa Ràpita of Juan Lladó, who reached the final race tied. The win finally went to the Menorcans thanks to their victory in Sunday's race. The podium was completed by another Menorcan team, Toni Pons' "Chica Txeca".

In the RI2 category, Joan Jofre's "Lampo Rosso" from the CN Colonia Sant Pere was the winner. The "Bon Vent" of the CN Ciutadella, of Jeroni Capellà, finished second and the "Isis" of the CN Porto Colom, of Bartomeu Mas, took third place.

In the RI3 class, Andreu Cicerol's "Kresal" was unrivalled. The boat from the CN C'an Picafort won the three races completed and took the final victory. It was accompanied on the podium by "Physical" from the CN Colonia Sant Pere, owned by María del Mar López, and "Margarita" from the RCN Port de Pollença, owned by Paco Reyes.

The prize-giving ceremony for the championship, an event sponsored by the Santa Margalida Town Hall, Bodegas Pere Seda and FuturTrans, took place on Sunday afternoon at the Club Nàutic Can Picafort. The winners were presented with a work of art by local artist Caterina Payeras.

In addition to the Balearic Cruising Championship, this race was also a qualifying race for the Interclubs Trophy, jointly organised by the Ciutadella, Port de Pollença, Colonia de Sant Pere and Can Picafort yacht clubs.
