The Spanish national team goes to the world event in still water with the highest aspirations and with the top favorite status in many of the events. In fact, they will defend the first place of the medal which was achieved a year ago at Halifax, Canada, where the paddlers accompñished to finish the competition with four gold medals (K4 500 mens, C4 500 mens, C2 500 mens y K1 200 mens), two silver (K2 200 feminine and C1 200 feminine)and two bronze (C1 5000 feminine y K1 5000 mens).

After this great success of the Spanish sprint, this season the results have continued the same way during the journey, like the first World Championship Szeged and later on at the European Games of Cracovia,  the Spanish vessels have always been to the test, with fantastic results.

Now arrives the turn for the championship which is painted in red in the calendar as it is an important race. The selection that is participating  are 20 kayaks (nine boys and eleven girls) and 17 canoes (ten boys and seven girls), and also two boats of the K2 and C2 500 of mixt category.

Spain will be represented also by a selection of eight athletes of Paracanoe, who Adrián Castaño stands out, paddler from the Real Club Náutico of Palma, who searches for a spot at the Paralympics Games of Paris.

In the men's category, Joan Antoni Moreno will be the first to jump in the water and he will do so with the qualifying heat that opens the championship in the C1 200. The paddler of the Real Club Nàutic Port Pollença feels that he is in shape and prepared. “I face the world championship with eagerness and hope and looking forward to achieving my goals. It's my turn to open the competition and I come prepared and in good shape. The whole team is great, a top team, and I'm sure the results are also top".

The Halifax Gold C4, will try to achieve the same result in a race in which the Spanish team is the favourite in a boat in which the Majorcan Joan Antoni Moreno, and his teammates Adrián Sieiro, Pablo Graña and Manuel Fontán will paddle.

Without any doubt, the K4 of the majorcan paddler Marcus Cooper and his companions Saúl Craviotto, Carlos Arévalo and Rodrigo Germade, are the heads of the selection. The title achieved from the past year at Canada, The European title won in Cracovia just eight weeks ago makes this boat one of the main candidates for gold and Olympic qualification for Paris.
