Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita warms up for a legendary 150 miles Trophy

Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita warms up for a legendary 150 miles Trophy

19th April 2024 by Nautimedia

The Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita (CNR) will host this May one of its most legendary cruising regattas, recently recovered: the 150 Miles Trophy for the RI Cruiser and ORC Cruiser classes, consisting of a renewed format, with a round trip between Sa Ràpita and Ciutadella, passing through Cabrera and with two sailors as crew on board each participating boat.

In its beginnings, this veteran regatta consisted of a single-handed course from the club to the Isla del Aire in Menorca and back. Now, after its reactivation in 2023 after some years without taking place, it offers a round trip to Cabrera and from there to Isla del Aire and back to the club.

The fleet will set sail, weather permitting, on Friday 17th of May at 16h in the afternoon. After the regatta, the first three finishers in each class will receive a trophy. In order to encourage the participation of boats from other clubs, the participating boats will have free mooring rights at the CNR for 7 days, to choose between the days before or after the regatta. Registrations are open until 15th May and can be made through this link: http://regatas.cnrapita.com/es/default/races/race-inscription-cruise-nopre-login/text/150-millas-a2-es/0

"It's a perfect plan for cruising sailors who want to experience a sailing adventure and put their skills to the test. The course is magnificent and has everything to enjoy sailing. The participants will be fully satisfied," says Miki Bover, sports director of the CNR. "That is why, from the club, we want to reposition this emblematic and traditional race as one of the reference regattas and of a certain level in the Balearic sailing calendar, as it is very special and different from the rest," he concludes.

The 150 Miles regatta was created decades ago by a number of enthusiasts linked to the club. Biel Lladó, founder of the emblematic company Nàutica Tramuntana and winner of the 150 miles with his grandson in the last edition with the ‘samaruch quart’, recalls its beginnings. "At that time, there were no solo regattas in Mallorca. We were a group of sailors from Colònia de Sant Jordi who were very restless and eager to live new experiences at sea," he recalls. "We wanted to create a regatta that was for solo sailors and that also had a longer route than the usual races that used to take place. That's how the 150 Millas was born, with the added attraction that it was a crossing to the Isla del Aire, off the southeast coast of Menorca. We had a great time every time we took part, and I am sure that now, in this new stage, it will be a source of enjoyment for all the participants. It's a great opportunity for sailors to test themselves, sign up and enjoy a different kind of regatta," he says.
