Club Nàutic S’Arenal Pays Tribute to Its Sailors at the Night of Sailing

12th January 2025 by Nautimedia

A grand event at the renovated Restaurant of Club Nàutic S’Arenal (CNA) to host the traditional Night of Sailing CNA, a sporting and social event that has been celebrated since time immemorial and brings together the club's sailing family to celebrate the successes achieved in the previous season.

Nearly 200 people attended the event, including the club's sailors, from the light sailing race team to cruising navigators, and 25 athletes were honored who, throughout the 2024 season, achieved results that allowed them to rank within the "top 10" of European or World Championships, have reached the podium in a Spanish Championship or have won a Balearic Championship.

Also present were the collaborators and club employees who work in the area of regattas, as well as the members of the CNA Board of Directors. As every year, institutional presence was limited, with representation from the authorities of the Ajuntament de Llucmajor such as the Councilors for Sports, Simó Adrover and Antonio Cayuela, Councilor for Public Function, representing the mayor Xisca Lascolas, as the only political guests, as it is an event designed and intended to bring together the CNA sailing family.

This emotional event has been celebrated each year for more than four decades to, in a family atmosphere with the presence of all its sailors, workers, and collaborators of the Sailing Section, recognize all those people with a remarkable career in the field of sailing over the previous year.

Throughout the evening, the titles obtained by the CNA's light sailing racers throughout 2024 were celebrated, the season performed by the CNA cruisers was praised, the organizational capacity of the Sailing Section was claimed, and deserved recognition was given, through various distinctions, to people, collaborators, clubs, and institutions for their support to the club.

The gala was directed by Bárbara Besalduch, a person very linked to the club. The format of the event was renewed to offer a closer, more enjoyable, and family-friendly gala, which included speeches, the presentation of recognitions and awards to the outstanding athletes of 2024, and audiovisual pieces showing how the CNA Sailing School operates, how the year has gone at the organizational level of regattas and events, and a heartfelt tribute to the club's international sailors who have participated in competitions as prestigious and exclusive as the Paris Olympics or the America's Cup in Barcelona this season.

Thus, Paula Barceló, Conrad Konitzer, and Silvia Mas were honored, who have competed in the America's Cup, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, showcasing their talent on a novel and top-level stage. And, of course, the double milestone achieved by Paula Barceló, who participated in her second Olympics, was claimed. She herself stated in her words to the attendees that "As sailors, we are mainly a reference as people, and at the family level as members of this club, it is a pride and an honor to belong to the CNA."

Also, the campaign of the CNA's most international athletes was summarized from the perspective of the Olympic team's IQFOIL sailor, Bernat Tomás, who is already fighting to secure his place in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

"Not only do you fill us with pride, but you have also become a source of inspiration and motivation for our sailors to move forward and continue fighting for their goals, regardless of the challenges that arise," Besalduch highlighted during the presentation.

Moreover, as tradition dictates, badges and CNA awards were presented in recognition of values such as companionship, progress, perseverance, best academic grades, and best coach of the year.
