Last Friday, January 31, the Club Nàutic S’Arenal (CNA) hosted the annual dinner that topped off the club's cruiser sailing social gatherings.
VISIT OUR ONLINE TV AND EXPERIENCE THE SEA IN FIRST PERSON, WHEREVER AND WHENEVER YOU WANTAt the facilities of the renovated CNA Restaurant, a hundred people gathered, including crews and boat owners from various clubs on the island and club staff, including the sports director, Álex Duran; the Sailing Board Member, Ricardo Alabau; the manager, Ferran Muniesa; the treasurer, Juan Miguel Riera; the vice president, Maria Garau; and the president, José Ramón Picó.
"This event is a celebration of everything we have shared on the water during the past year 2024, of the regattas we have organized and, of course, of the winners whom we want to recognize along with our sponsors," Picó said during his speech.
Indeed, one of the highlights of the evening was the award ceremony for the winners of the different meetings, regattas, gatherings, and trophies held throughout 2024, to whom products from sponsors such as Marine Pool, Mar Blau, Bufete Frau, and North Sails were presented.
For 2025, in addition to participating in events organized by other clubs, the CNA has scheduled 22 regattas of its own for the cruiser class, including eight ‘gatherings’ with different courses of a maximum of 12 miles, nine ‘summer series’ of short courses, held on Wednesdays in June and August, and various coastal regattas of up to 25 miles including, as a novelty this year, the one in Santa Ponça, which joins those of Cabrera, Sa Ràpita, the Grand Sailing Day Bufete Frau or the Mar Blau Trophy.
Furthermore, the CNA has been managing for some time 6 boats of the B One class, very competitive 7.5-meter boats that the club makes available to members and other sailors so they can participate in a league of fast and very fun races of this class promoted by the club from March to December, with one meeting per quarter.
"Cruiser sailing is a fundamental part of Club Nàutic Arenal, and our goal is that more cruisers join this great family every year. We count on all of you to continue growing and making our meetings a benchmark," concluded the president in his speech. Ricard Alabau, CNA's Sailing Board Member, also spoke during the evening.
"The social part is very important in these types of regattas, without undermining the competitive spirit that is part of the club's values," insists Ricard Alabau, who adds that "many of these tests start with a breakfast or end with a meal and even some drinks so that participants can socialize."
On the other hand, he highlights initiatives such as, "the club invites kids who are in the sailing school with the Optimists, so they can participate with the cruiser sailors in their meetings, in order to get them hooked on this type of sailing."
Alabau also emphasizes that the CNA regattas take place over the privileged stage of the Marine Reserve of the Bay of Palma, the first of its kind declared in the Balearic Islands. "We have the privilege of being right in the reserve just outside the port, with crystal clear waters comparable to those of Formentera. Therefore, all sailors are fully aware of the protection of this natural treasure, and from the club, we offer courses to preserve this paradise we have. We also collaborate regularly and throughout the year with IMEDEA, an entity to which we provide our facilities so that they can come and go as they wish to carry out their studies, measurements, and analysis for the benefit of the environment," he concludes.
