The FX Open Series has closed this Friday this edition that started on the 15th of February with the 29er EuroCup. During the last four days of competition the 49erFX have been the protagonists and the equality has been maximum until the last race.
The British William Pank and Hannah Morris were the overall winners, beating the French Sam Chambet and Karl Devaux in the last race, who had been dominant throughout the championship. The two crews were tied on 17 points after 12 races, but the Brits had five firsts to the French pair's four. Third place on the podium went to the Swiss crew of Sam Chambet and Pierre Jully.
In the women's category the victory was Spanish, with the Galician-Balearic crew of Marta Cardona and Stella Maris Enríquez (CN Arenal/RCN Vigo), who finished fourth overall, tied for third overall. Second were the Swedes Ebban and Ellen Fredriksson and third the Swiss Sophie Studer and Johanna Klötzli.
The other Spanish crew in the competition, formed by Daniel Cardona and Pablo Llorens (CN Arenal/RCN La Coruña) finished fifth overall, as some problems on the second day, where they had to retire and lost three races, prevented them from being able to fight for the podium.
The weather has accompanied the FX Open Series in El Balís, with wind during all the days that allowed the celebration of up to twelve races.
The sports director of the CN El Balís, Magda Resano, was very satisfied with this edition of the MedSailing: "It has been a very intense two weeks, first with the 29er and then with the FX, and we are very happy with how everything went".
On the novelty of the FX, he explains that "this first experience has been very good both for the participants, the class, and for the club. This year we had the handicap that the World Championship will be next week in Lanzarote and, even so, we had 11 boats. We are going to continue working so that next year we can double the participation, because in this regatta we want quality to take precedence over quantity".
In this first participation of the 49erFX in the MedSailing, eleven crews from six countries took part: Spain, France, Finland, Great Britain, Sweden and Switzerland.
