With the Spanish Wingfoil Racing Championship on the horizon, set to take place in the Bay of Portmany from October 4th to 6th, and under the slogan "this summer come fly at Es Nàutic," Club Nàutic Sant Antoni has launched a wingfoil training program specifically aimed at young people.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThe goal is to foster a passion for this sport, which offers spectacular sensations to those who practice it, and to attract new athletes. The course, called 'Open Junior Wingfoil,' will run throughout the summer in the afternoons.
Participants receive theoretical and practical initiation classes in this increasingly popular modality, through a highly educational step-by-step learning method. They learn to handle the wing and the foil separately, and then combine the two elements to begin their first flights over the water. In a later stage, they learn transitions: jibing and tacking. The course consists of five sessions of two hours each.
Students receive instruction from trainers prepared by Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, such as María Costa Tur, who recently traveled to Tarifa with Enrique Mas, the technical director of Es Nàutic, to receive training to pass on to their future students. While the program is primarily aimed at young people, it is not exclusive to them; adults eager to experience new sensations also have the opportunity to learn.
Wing Foil is a new modality that involves handling a wing that is not attached to the board. The board itself is a foil type that lifts out of the water when speed is gained, thanks to a wing-shaped underwater fin or keel. The sensations are similar to kitesurfing (sliding with a kite), although practicing it is much easier and safer.
