The Saturday 23rd of September will celebrate the first edition of the Swim around the island of Sa Porrassa, organized by the entity dedicated to the conservation of the sea and oceans Mar de Fondo and with the collaboration of many representative entities in tasks of conservation of the marine environment.

The principal objective of this event is to help eliminate the negative image that has Magaluf, to connect sea lovers through sport and promote the conservation of the balearic sea.
The route will begin from the beach of Magaluf, from where the registered participants will dive into the sea to complete the journey, making the lap around Sa Porrassa. It is not necessary to be an expert to swim in open sea to participate in this non competitive sport event, as it is an idyllic distance both for beginners and for the more experienced.
Once the lap is done, at the Plaça Jaques Sasson there will be music, fruit, snacks and drinks, to generate community and to recuperate energy. Furthermore, there will be exposed the work of the projects of the principle organizations of the marine conservation if the island, like Save the Med Foundation, Fundación Palma Aquarium and Shark Med, as well as relevant information about the Pacta Blau Balear, a manifest promoted by the foundation of Marilles that proposes a set of measures in order to guarantee the marine conservation of the balearic archipelago.
Moreover, thanks to the company True World, for this event the carbon footprint will be measured and compensated with verified projects of the ONU to be a neutral carbon event.
“The Swimming lap around the island of Sa Porrassa is a project that we have been planning for some time and we are pleased that it become a reality. We want the people to gather at this event, not only to enjoy the sport, but to also enhance the value of the natural heritage in a place like Magaluf. Together we can make a difference with protecting and conserving our sea”, assures Paul Gehrig, co-founder of Mar de Fondo.
“The Swim around Sa Porrassa is a dream come true for us. We are enthusiastic to promote an event that joins sport and marine conservation in a surrounding like Magaluf, that often is under a negative perception. Our sea is a treasure that deserves to be protected, and everybody wants that the people participate at the event to be active in this effort”, adds.
The interested to participate in this sport event can participate in two ways: swimming or using a paddle board as support. But the most important is to take with you a mask and a snorkel, to be able to see all the treasures of the bottom of the sea and to appreciate the beauty of our Mediterranean Sea.

The prize is 17€, and the 20% will be transferred to a project of marine conservation. Also it includes the insurance for the personal accidents, refreshments, participation in raffles and the event T-shirt.
