At its meeting this Wednesday, April 9, on the proposal of the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, the Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of Gustavo Santana Hernández as the new president of State Ports.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERSantana holds a degree in Naval and Oceanic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and since December 2023, he has held the position of Director General of the Merchant Marine at the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and President of Maritime Rescue. Previously, he had been a technical advisor to the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine.
Born in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) in 1973, he belongs to the State Naval Engineers Corps, serving in his last stage as a technical advisor to the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine.
Throughout his professional career, he has held public responsibility positions such as Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of the Government of the Canary Islands; Vice President and Managing Director of the Public Business Entity Puertos Canarios.
In the private and educational sector, he has been an executive of a passenger and cargo shipping company, a naval and industrial engineering consultant, and an associate professor at the ULPGC in the Degree of Naval Engineering.
Likewise, the Council of Ministers has also approved the appointment of Ana Núñez Velasco as the new Director General of the Merchant Marine at the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
Born in Madrid in 1973, Ana Núñez is a naval and oceanic engineer and has been part of the State Naval Engineers Corps since 2006.
In her professional career, between 2012 and 2016, she was head of the stability and freeboard service at the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine (DGMM). From March 2016 to June 2020, she was the assistant deputy director, and in June 2020, she held the position of Deputy Director-General for Safety, Pollution, and Maritime Inspection at the DGMM.
Additionally, she has been the chair of the maritime-fishing sector working group of the national commission for safety and health at work since 2016 and has been a board member of the Maritime Rescue Society since 2020 and of the Governing Board of AESA since September 2024.
Before all these responsibilities, between 2006 and 2009, she held the position of maritime safety inspector at the maritime captaincy of Castellón, and from January 2009 to April 2012, maritime safety inspector at the captaincy of Cádiz.
