27th December 2023 by Agencies

The Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja 2024, which will celebrate its sixteenth edition from the 24th to the 28th of January, has once again been sold out. The power of the event, the excellent organization, both on land and in the regatta area, has made this regatta, which is part of the international Spanish circuit such as the Optimist Excellence Cup, an international reference. For all these reasons, the Torrevieja event will bring together 428 sailors from 23 countries in four intense days of competition.

Poland, with 49 registrations, is the country with the most representatives, excluding Spain. It is followed by Hungary and Switzerland, both with 19, while Germany will be with 16 sailors, Denmark with 15; France and Holland with 13; Sweden with 12; Great Britain, Finland and Greece with 9; Croatia and Czech Republic with 8; Estonia with 4; Lithuania and Latvia with 3: Ukraine, Italy and Turkey with 2 while Austria and Belgium will have one representative each. Spain will have 245 sailors for this international event, representing almost all the autonomous communities, including the Balearic Islands, with sailors from Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Club Nàutic S'Arenal, Real Club Náutico de Palma, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, Club Nàutic S'Estanyol, Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença, Club Náutico Cala Gamba and Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx.

It is worth remembering that Torrevieja has been home to great sailors who are now part of Olympic teams for the Paris 2024 event, others in major sailing projects, round the world or the America's Cup, such as the Italian Marco Gradoni, winner in two editions: 2018 and 2019 along with the Balearic Maria Perelló, the only woman who has managed to win the Optimist World Championship three times for Spain.

But they have not been the only ones who have left their mark on the Torrevieja regatta, an event in which, in these 15 years of history, in 2024 it will turn 16, the best in children's sailing have competed in its waters, Torrevieja being a point of reference and an obligatory regatta for all.
