Ibizan Paddler Álvaro Rubio Dominates Junior Category at the Euskadi Winter Championship

Álvaro Rubio, from Es Nàutic, decisively won the race held over a distance of 5,000 meters on the Bidasoa River during the first weekend of March.

The Euskadi Winter Championship was contested on Saturday, March 1st, on the Bidasoa River, with S.D. Santiagotarrak securing the overall win ahead of Itxas-Gain Zumaiako Urola Itsas-adarra P.K. and Donostia Kayak K.E., which finished second and third respectively.

In the Junior Men's K-1 category, Álvaro Rubio (Club Nàutic Sant Antoni) emerged as the winner and was proclaimed Champion of Euskadi, followed by Xabat Bergara (Itxas-Gain Zumaiako Urola Itsas-adarra P.K.) in second place and Oihan Irizar in third place (Itxas-Gain de Zumaia). In the Junior Women's K-1 category, Ana Martinena (Itxas-Gain Zumaiako Urola Itsas-adarra P.K.) was the fastest.

In the Senior Men's K-1 category, Martin Egaña (Itxas-Gain Zumaiako Urola Itsas-adarra P.K.) was the victor, while in the canoe category, Javier Herrera (S.D. Santiagotarrak) was the fastest. In the Senior Women's K-1 category, Irati Osa (Itxas-Gain Zumaiako Urola Itsas-adarra P.K.) claimed the victory.

In the Sub-23 Men's K-1 category, Unai Amostegi (S.D. Santiagotarrak) finished in first place. In the Sub-23 Women's K-1, Aiora Irazu (Ciudade de Lugo) was the fastest, while Josefa Molina (Itxas-Gain Zumaiako Urola Itsas-adarra P.K.) was proclaimed Champion of Euskadi. In the women's canoe category, Ane Eileen Mesa (Barrika P.T.) was the winner.

In the cadet category, Men's K-1, Iraitz Izagirre (Donostia Kayak K.E.) was the top finisher. In the canoe category, Rodrigo Revenga (S.D. Santiagotarrak) finished in first place. In the Women's K-1 category, Ainé San Martín (C.P. Pamplona) was the winner, and Eider Cecilia (S.D. Santiagotarrak) was proclaimed Champion of Euskadi. In the women's canoe category, Laia Elias (S.D. Santiagotarrak) finished in first position.

In paracanoe, in the veterans category for those over 50 years old, Javier Perez (Getxo Kayaka) was the winner. In the junior category, the victor was Asier Bulman (S.D. Santiagotarrak).

In the veteran women's category for those over 50 years old, Cristina Iraeta (ATSS) was the winner. In the men under 50 years old in K-1, Iñaki Fernandez (Itxas-Gain Zumaiako Urola Itsas-adarra P.K.) was the fastest, and in the over 50 years old K-1 category, Ignacio Sánchez (C.P. Pamplona) was proclaimed champion of Euskadi by Ramon Gorrotxategi (S.D. Santiagotarrak).

The next event will be the Spanish Winter Championship in Sevilla on March 15th and 16th.
