This initiative is promoted by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and its aim is to bring science closer to the public of all ages, stimulate interest in knowledge and encourage the participation of citizens in scientific issues by carrying out informative activities.

IMEDEA's proposal for 2023 includes guided tours of the institute itself, the premiere of a short documentary that includes a talk-colloquium and a scientific journey on a century-old train crossing the Sierra de la Tramuntana.

On Wednesday, November 8th, IMEDEA opens the doors of its center to offer a tour of some of the spaces where scientific knowledge itself is generated. Those interested in this free activity will be able to visit the IMEDEA laboratories, as well as chat with the research teams and technicians working at the centre and learn first-hand about some of the projects they are carrying out, such as the study of the seabed or global change and ocean acidification.

In addition, on the same Wednesday, but in the afternoon, the short documentary "From space to the Mediterranean: chasing ocean currents" will be premiered at the IMEDEA Seminar Hall in Esporlas. A work that brings together a series of recordings made during the second campaign of the Fast-Swot project and whose mission was to take measurements of ocean currents through autonomous oceanographic instruments, such as underwater gliders or drifting buoys that are sponsored by schools in the Balearic Islands.

After the screening, there will be a talk presented by Tona Pou with the participation of part of the scientific team of the mission -Ananda Pascual, Baptiste Mourre, Bàrbara Barceló-Llull, Benjamín Casas, and Lara Díaz-Barroso- and the director of the short documentary Nathan Siegel.

And to end the Sema de la Ciencia, on Saturday, 11th of November, IMEDEA will take part in the activity "Ciència a tot tren", where scientists will share their latest advances and knowledge with the passengers of the Sóller train through a series of informative micro-talks. On arrival in Sóller, the public will have the opportunity to visit some of the area's important cultural centres, such as the Sóller Botanical Garden, the Museu de la Mar-Port de Sóller and the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences.
