The Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita (CNR) hosted the 2024 Federation Cup - Gabinet Lladó Trophy this weekend, a regatta for the Optimist class in sub11, sub13, and sub16 categories, male and female, with 85 sailors participating.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThe regatta began on Friday, November 22 and lasted until Sunday, November 24, with a total of 6 races out of the 9 scheduled. Of the three days of scheduled races, only Friday and Sunday could host races, as the low wind intensity on Saturday prevented competition.
On Friday, November 22, two races were sailed with strong winds between 18 and 22 km with gusts of up to 24 km, testing the fleet gathered in the southern waters of the island. As evidence, 66 participants were able to complete the first race of the competition and the second, under better conditions, saw the entire fleet complete the race.
No races could be held on Saturday due to the low and variable wind intensity in the racing area, although from early morning until 5:30 PM, the committee tried to conduct some races with the entire fleet on the water in case the conditions allowed. For the next day, the schedule was moved up to try to make up for the races not held.
On Sunday at 10 AM, the fleet headed to the racing field to start the day's races with an intensity that slightly increased from 7 to 10 knots, from a southeast direction of 140º to 160º. Four races could be held, the three scheduled for the day and one make-up from Saturday, closing the championship with a total of six races.
Among the participants, Jan Palou, from RCN Palma, stood out, winning the overall title of this Federation Cup - Gabinet Lladó Trophy. Alongside him competed sailors from CN Ciutadella, CM Mahón, CN Sant Antoni, CMSAP - C'an Pastilla, CV Puerto d'Andratx, CN Ibiza, CN Cala Gamba, CN Villacarlos, RCN Puerto Pollença, CN S'Arenal, RCN Palma, and CN S'Estanyol.
The Gabinet Lladó Trophy is a well-established event at the club and has been held for over two decades. This time, the race had the additional allure of being a Federation Cup, making it the first qualifying race of the regatta circuit for the 2025 Spanish Optimist Championship, alongside the Balearic Championship and the School Finals.
“The Gabinet Lladó Trophy is our queen regatta for the Optimist class, and it is the last major sporting event on the club's light sailing calendar this 2024. We have had the sponsorship of Gabinet Lladó for this event for many years, and the club is very grateful to this sponsoring entity, which has been linking its image to this date in the calendar for more than 20 years and betting on being here for two generations,” says Miki Bover, sports director of the CNR.
