Jordi Triay wins the IV Club Marítimo Melilla – Ciudad del Deporte Trophy

The sailor from Club Marítimo de Mahón, along with Martín Fresneda, excels in a race that serves to work on various aspects he will encounter at the World Championship in Buenos Aires.

The sailor from Club Marítimo de Mahón, Jordi Triay, is in the final phase of preparing for his participation, as the European champion, in the Snipe World Championship to be held between October and November in the Argentine city of Buenos Aires. One of these preparatory steps was the IV Club Marítimo Melilla – Ciudad del Deporte Trophy, in which Triay brilliantly prevailed alongside Martín Fresneda from Club de Mar Almería, and which has served to practice some aspects as realistically as possible with the World Championship in mind.

Triay, who finished at the top of the standings after six races, scored 16 points, followed by the runners-up, Alberto Martínez and María Valverde, with 22 points, while Jon Peeters and Nathalie Janssens were third with 23. In total, the event featured 50 boats.

Conditions were quite unstable on the first two days where Triay and Fresneda scored a 5, a 16, a 2, and a 7. On the third day, the wind stabilized, allowing the sailor from Club Marítimo de Mahón to close the championship with two victories.

“The goal was to train for the World Championship, and this regatta field was very good for us because it had currents and different intensities in the same field, good sailors, a variety of waves and, although it has been complex, it has helped me a lot in preparation for the World Championship,” explains Jordi Triay.
