Lack of Wind Prevents the Start of the Ibiza Wingfoil Open Spanish Racing Championship

4th October 2024 by Agencies

The absence of wind has prevented the eight scheduled races of the Ibiza Wingfoil Open Spanish Racing Championship from taking place this afternoon, which is being held this weekend in the bay of Portmany, under the organization of Club Nàutic Sant Antoni and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation.

Tomorrow, the start time of the races has been moved up to 11:30 AM, with the aim of holding the eight races scheduled for tomorrow and the same number that should have been held today.

The 68 sailors participating in the IWO had even traveled on the tourist ferry to the race field planned for today, in front of Caló des Moro, and had even gone into the water, but the conditions ultimately were not ideal and the races were suspended. Nonetheless, the day has been productive for setting up and adjusting all the logistics necessary for the development of this Spanish Championship. It is worth remembering that in the IWO, competitors embark to move to the best place to conduct the races, depending on the best wind conditions in the different competition areas.

The participants come from the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Valencian Community, Castilla la Mancha, and the Balearic Islands, the latter contributing the most participants, including seven island racers: Marcos Colomar, Alan Benlloch, Paco Fernández, Javier Morillo, Daniel Alarcón, Enrique Mas, and María Costa.
