24th February 2025 by Agencies

The WingFoil class competed for only two days, and after a no-wind day on Saturday, February 22, two races were held on Sunday. In these races, Leya Seguí, the Spanish champion and sailor from Club Nàutic del Port de Pollença, claimed victory in the WingFoil class.

In the ILCA 4 class, with 50 participants, Ferrando led from start to finish, closely followed by Mateo Carbonell (CN Jávea), who ultimately took the victory in the men's category. Tied on points after the first day, Ferrando managed to slightly pull ahead on the second day, leaving everything to be decided on the final day where Ferrando scored 4-4-5, while Carbonell had a more inconsistent 7-1-9, which was not enough to close the gap, finishing two points behind Ferrando. Far from the top two, the third place went to local sailor Eugenio Ribelles (RCR Alicante), who improved as the competition progressed, finishing the championship with his best scores of 3-2-6.

In terms of categories, the women's podium was comprised of Blanca Ferrando in first place; María Fenoll (CN Santa Pola), second; and María Stapinska (RCN Valencia), third. The men's podium included Carbonell in first, Ribelles in second, and Javier Bellver (RCN Valencia) in third. In the Sub16, Liam Woods (RCN Valencia) and Stapinska were the winners.

In the WingFoil class, Leya Seguí from Club Nàutic del Port de Pollença finished first, followed by her club mate Adrià Rabassa, who ended tied at 9 points with Dino Loiacono (RCN Palma), who came in third. In the women's category, Seguí was joined on the podium by her club mates Neus Pericas and Valentina Cifré.

The last day of this first weekend of the Olympic Week in Alicante was characterized by an unstable north-northeast wind due to the mountains, which shifted east blowing between 8 and 12 knots, allowing three races for ILCA 4 and two for WingFoil.

At the trophy ceremony, Miguel López Barbero, president of RCR Alicante; Rafel Chirivella, vice president of the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community; and Sofia Clar and Antonio Ramón Borja, sailing board members of RCRA, were present.

Next weekend, from February 28 to March 2, the second act of the Comunitat Valenciana Olympic Week will take place with the entry of the 420 class.
