Many legends and myths surround the famous island of Ibiza. From stories of old corsairs to tales of mysterious sea sightings. Ibiza has such a special energy that it is no wonder it is known as the magical island.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERToday we are going to focus on one of the most photographed landscapes in the waters of Ibiza and Formentera: the islet of Es Vedrà. One of the most magical and attractive spots in Ibiza, whether for its beautiful sunsets, crystal-clear waters or simply because it has something that makes it practically impossible to stop admiring this imposing island off the coast of Ibiza.
One of the legends about Es Vedrà is the sighting of sea monsters. The crystalline waters surrounding the islet can make you see things that are not there. There are fishermen and tourists who claim to have seen large shadows at the bottom of the sea moving swiftly. Most likely they were shoals of fish, a whale or playful dolphins, as to date there has been no confirmation of attacks on boats by large sea monsters. But one's imagination sometimes makes one see things that are not.
In addition to sightings of sea monsters, there have also been reports of sightings of strange floating objects. As we have already mentioned, the landscape surrounding Es Vedrà is unique and, at night, it is usually noted for its clear skies full of stars, so it is normal to imagine seeing something among so many luminous stars. Although Father Palau, in 1894, wrote about sightings of luminous objects in the Ibizan sky, there are no graphic materials to support these facts.
Another of the most deeply rooted stories among Ibizans is that Es Vedrà is one of the most magnetic spots on the planet. It is said that this energy originates in the depths of the sea and is emitted from the very center of the rock. We don't know if this is true, but what we do know is that it is a visual spectacle that attracts both tourists and locals.
