The national ILCA 4 event saw the participation of 140 sailors from the Sub16 and Sub18 categories, hailing from 10 autonomous communities: Andalusia, Catalonia, Balearic Islands, Valencia, Cantabria, Basque Country, Canary Islands, Murcia, Galicia, and Asturias.
The fourth and last day, which took place yesterday, Sunday, March 9, featured south-southwest winds, with an intensity of 15 knots, but without the harsh gusts that marked the previous days. Due to the large number of participants, the sailors were divided into two groups, gold, which completed ten races, and blue, which only did eight.
Nikko Palou, from the Real Club Náutico de Palma, clearly won in the Sub16 category and was also competing for the overall title until the last moment. In the end, it went to Sergio López Palacios, from RCR Cartagena, followed by Miguel García (CN Cambrils) from Catalonia, with Nikko Palou finishing third on the podium.
Palou has started the season well and already secured victory in the ILCA 4 Spain Cup, both overall and Sub 16, in a regatta held at Las Teresitas beach (Tenerife) last February.
In the women's category, Mónica Osha, also a sailor from Real Club Náutico de Palma, achieved the Spanish Sub16 runner-up position. The Mallorcan maintained an exciting challenge until the last race with Marta Ferrando from Valencia, who was ultimately the winner.
