Mediterranean cuisine on board, the culinary recommendations of ADN Mediterráneo

31st October 2023 by Nautimedia

This Monday 30th of October was the presentation of the book "Mediterranean seafood recipes for cooking on board". A recipe book with tasty seafood dishes written by the former president of the Association of Mediterranean Sailors, Gabriel Morell, which contains illustrations by Mangel Aguiló.

At the request of the Mediterranean Sailors' Association, this compilation of easy and simple recipes has been created, perfect for cooking in the small kitchens of the boats, with the aim of sharing this culinary knowledge with the entire community of sailors and maintaining traditional Mediterranean cuisine.

Cold dishes, pastas, rice dishes, fish... Recipes made with ingredients that are usually taken on board or are easy to find in port, such as the traditional "Caldereta de langosta a la menorquina", "Arroz meloso con raors" or "Filetes de san Pedro a la ibicenca". A total of 70 exquisite dishes make up this culinary recipe book for lovers of the sea and sailing. Simple recipes, more complex preparations or even adaptations of other dishes to the sea, so that sailors can have other options besides the typical omelet and battered steaks or sandwiches when they go to sea.

This book compiles recipes that we wanted to share with the marine society and with all sailors, to enjoy the cuisine on board during the crossing. All of them have been prepared and tasted on different vessels belonging to some of ADN Mediterráneo's members, on board a Kaiteret, a Tornado 31 or a Swan 53, on day trips or long crossings, to prove that it is possible to prepare them on board any vessel.

The event was presented by the Mallorcan sailor and singer-songwriter Jaume Anglada, who at the end of the presentation delighted the audience with some habaneras. In addition, the sailor Javier "Bubi" Sanso, who has completed several round the world trips, 3 of them non-stop and solo, and the sailor Ricardo Maldonado, a member of the Aifos crew, head of the Navy's Race Commission in the Balearic Islands and who has made two round the world trips on the Juan Sebastián Elcano, have revealed what their menus were during these transoceanic voyages, dishes totally different to the proposals presented in the book "Mediterranean seafood recipes for cooking on board".

The recipe book is already on sale in various bookshops in Palma, as well as on websites such as Amazon. But members attending this year's ADN Mediterráneo annual dinner, which will be held on 23rd of November at the CMSAP restaurant, will receive a copy of the book as a gift.
