Joana Gomila, a deputy from Més per Menorca, conveyed "the sector's concern" to the Parliament to help diversify the economy, strengthen the primary sector, guarantee local products, and provide necessary training to promote the profession among young people, according to a party statement.

Currently, Menorca has 37 professional small-scale fishing boats and another 7 dedicated to professional fishing, but there is no training initiative, unlike in Ibiza, which has a similar fleet.

As a result, during a committee meeting held last Thursday, May 30, the non-legislative proposal to introduce a medium-level vocational training program for a Technician in Coastal Navigation and Fishing, as well as a basic vocational training program in maritime-fishing activities, was approved.
