The Silk Route has already set course for Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, after the postponement on Wednesday, October 9, due to strong wind.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThe fleet of 20 boats started this Thursday, October 10, at about 10:20 AM, from the Real Club Náutico Valencia, with a wind of 8 knots intensity on a 115º axis. This allowed for a quite beautiful start and with the fleet very stretched out. These conditions have allowed for fast sailing, at least in the first stages of the race, as after several hours of crossing, Aeolus has gradually disappeared.
The favorites, with those weather conditions, quickly took the lead, as is the case with "Estupendu," a First 40.7 by Fernando Riera, followed by "Avatar 14," an Oceanis 58 by José A. Solé, along with some slightly smaller units, including "Yarei" (Sun Odyssey 39) by Antonio Orts; "Imposible" (Noray 43) by María Paloma Martínez or "Radazul" (Oceanis 36) by Eduardo Abad.
After seven hours of crossing, at 5:40 PM on Thursday, October 10, the fleet was sailing with so little wind that it had not even managed to pass the 'center of the channel'. The head of the fleet at that time was sailing off the coast of Gandía. And a small group, sailing behind and along the coastline near Cullera, has changed their course in search of better wind conditions.
The arrival of the fleet at Sant Antoni de Portmany is expected in the early hours of this Friday, unless the wind conditions improve in the next few hours, something that seems impossible since the forecasts are being fulfilled, as happened on Wednesday and forced the organizing committee to postpone the start by 24 hours.
