Yesterday, December 4th, the Bay of Palma was the scene of training sessions for the teams participating in the 73rd Trofeo Ciutat de Palma, which coincides with the day of registration confirmation. The fleet consists of 333 boats from 15 countries, consolidating the event organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) as one of the most important children's sailing events on the international calendar.

Manu Fraga, director of the RCNP, expressed his satisfaction with the level and participation achieved in this edition, despite coinciding with the Optimist World Championship, which this year is being held in Argentina. "We know that in years when the world championship takes place in the southern hemisphere, during our winter, it is more difficult to attract foreign crews, but this year we have matched the number of countries and have almost the same sailors as last year, so we can be very happy with the previous work," Fraga noted.

The first race of the competition will start today, December 5th, at 10:30 AM. The Trofeo Ciutat de Palma will consist of four days of racing, with a maximum of 12 heats. To validate the event, at least two races must be completed, and from the fifth, sailors will be able to discard their worst result. The courses will be designed in a trapezoid format and will end after the second windward leg. The competition will include qualifying and final series, with three groups making starts of just over a hundred boats per heat during the initial phase.

Additionally, the RCNP reinforces its commitment to sustainability by implementing its program to measure the carbon footprint of the event. In collaboration with the entity True World, surveys will be processed to calculate the environmental impact of the regatta. Furthermore, this year a photography contest has been launched in collaboration with the Palma Aquarium Foundation, with the aim of fostering environmental awareness among participants.

Thanks to the support of the Palma City Council, the families of the sailors will be able to enjoy discounts on the city's tourist bus and departures to view the races from boats of the company Sa Calma. During the first three days of the competition, products provided by Naaix, Nautichandler, Goldwinds, and the Royal Spanish Assembly of Yacht Captains will be raffled among the participants.
