More than 700 sailors will participate in the 59th Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau

The Club Nàutic S'Arenal has celebrated the official presentation of the 59th edition of the Great Day of Sailing-Bufete Frau, one of the flagship regattas of the club's sports calendar and one of the oldest in the Balearic Islands, which will take place in waters near the club from August 19th to 27th.In addition, thanks to the collaboration of the City Council of Llucmajor, the overall winner of the regatta will register his name in the Rei en Jaume III Ciutat de Llucmajor Trophy.

Specifically, the Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau will take place in two batches, from Saturday 19th  to Monday 21st, and from Thursday 24th to Sunday August 27th, with the participation of a total of 575 boats aboard which will compete more than 700 local and national top-level sailors in the Optimist categories, 420, ILCA 6, ILCA 4, Open IQ Foil, Techno 293, Formula Windsurf, Musto Skiff, lateen sailing and cruising, representing dozens of sailing clubs from all over Spain.

The traditional sailing will also have its role in the meeting, as the second weekend will be held lateen sailing regattas, in Regatta, Llaüts and Open modalities. The more social side of sailing will also have its moment, with regattas on August 26th for the cruiser class, which will compete in ORC. Also, the meeting will feature other parallel activities, among the XX Travesía Sa Milla CNA - Cala Blava, an emblematic open water swimming event that will take place on August 26 from 9 am on the beach of Es Caló and whose benefits will go to the association ELA Balears.

"At the gates of the 60th anniversary of the regatta, we are proud to see that 575 boats have registered, which demonstrates the excellent sporting health of the most emblematic event of the Club Nàutic S'Arenal", said during the presentation the manager of the CNA, Ferran Muniesa, who has emphasized the large number of participating boats, registered in 12 classes with their different categories. At this point, he highlighted the large participation in Optimist, with 345 boats registered, and ILCA, with 89 in ILCA 4 and 46 in ILCA 6. To these classes are added the 420, Techno 293, iQ Foil, Musto Skiff, ORC cruising, lateen sailing and Formula Windsurfing. "All of them will compete with determination for the most wanted title of overall winner and to win the prestigious Trofeo Ciutat de Llucmajor Rei Jaume III, courtesy of the Ajuntament de Llucmajor", he stressed.

For his part, the president of the CNA, José Ramón Picó, has stressed "the unwavering support of Bufete Frau, sponsor of the meeting for 15 years of close collaboration and joint successes, managing to consolidate the Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau as an indisputable event in the national regatta calendar". He also wanted to express special thanks to Sa Calma Boats for providing a boat so that the parents of the sailors can watch their children race. "This initiative marks a turning point in the line of people being much closer to the regatta". He has also given a nod to those parents who travel with their children from the other Balearic Islands and from the mainland, specifically from the autonomous communities of the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia and Euskadi. Between sailors and their families, about a thousand people will be part of this edition of the Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau," he celebrated.

For his part, Toni Frau, has addressed directly to the child sailors present at the event. "Thank you very much for giving your best in this regatta, and to your parents for loving you very much and bringing you to sail every day. It is a great honor for Bufete Frau to support sailing, this regatta and to contribute to make it grow. For the Frau family, the CNA is our home. The Great Day of Sailing is the regatta of the summer, so enjoy and have a great time and, according to the philosophy of the CNA, go out to win," he urged.

Finally, the mayoress of Llucmajor, Xisca Lascolas, stressed that "this gathering is an honor and a pride for the municipality and comes from the hand of one of the most important sailing clubs in the world, with an unequivocal commitment to promote sport as a positive form of leisure for our young people". 

Also present at the presentation were the technical director of the Balearic Sailing Federation, Jordi Castro, and the manager of the Fundació per a l'Esport Balear, Eladio Huertas.

The Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau is the oldest regatta organized by the CNA and undoubtedly one of the most anticipated by sailing enthusiasts. It is one of the first regattas that were launched in the club, which faces it as a great celebration of the work done during the season. This great sporting and social event every year puts an end to the summer competitions and kicks off the new sporting season in the Balearic Islands.

The gathering, already consecrated in the regatta calendar of the Bay of Palma, is possible thanks to the collaboration of Bufete Frau. A company whose founder, José Frau Greenfield, has a historical relationship with the club in which he was formed and in which he has sailed since he was a child, achieving a not inconsiderable record, with titles such as Optimist world runner-up (1983), Spanish champion in Europe Class in 1984 and world runner-up in Europe Class in 1985. The family saga continued sailing in the CNA, so they are not only united by a commercial relationship, but also by an emotional one.
