The penultimate day of the championship brought together the Olympic windsurfing fleet to compete in a demanding course of less than an hour's duration between Lanzarote and Lobos Island via Punta del Papagayo. A spectacle and without doubt an endurance challenge for the 160 sailors who are playing for the last great title of the year.

The Marathon, which scored as two races of the race course, and the last two races of the Final Series were in charge of deciding this Thursday the ten windsurfers who will access the Medal Series, among them the sailor of the Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Nacho Baltasar, who will fight for the title from the quarter-final stage.

Luuc Van Opzeeland was unbeatable in the Marathon. With a time of 49 minutes from the starting horn until he crossed the finish line, the Dutchman managed to win the partial victory of a race that adds up to two races in the overall, thus settling at the top of the table.

In the two race course races held in the afternoon, Van Opzeeland withdrew from the first one - a partial that became his last discard - and sealed a second place in the second one, results that allowed him to access directly to the Final from the first position of the table.

Spain's future representative at the Olympic Games, Nacho Baltasar saved the day with a 13th place in the Marathon and 37-23 results in the last two events. With these results and after discarding the 37th place, the Mallorcan remains in the top ten and is in the fight for the final title.

Everything will therefore depend on what happens today. The Medal Series, which will be divided into quarterfinals, semifinals and a Grand Final to which the two current leaders - Luuc Van Opzeeland and Sharon Kantor - will have direct access, will decide the winners of the Lanzarote event with all the options open to the top ten.

The trophy ceremony will be held at the end of the day, at 17:00 local island time, at the Oasis Marina Bay and will be the finishing touch to the last big event of the Olympic windsurfing season.
