Nautimedia celebrates 10 years of specialized nautic communication

14th July 2023 by Nautimedia

The project specialized in nautic communication, Nautimedia Communication, turns 10 years old and is celebrated to remember. Carlos Hellín founded Rec Blau in 2013, after more than a decade working in television. His professional journey started in Madrid, first at TVE and Antena 3, and then Tele 5.

Furthermore, he was responsible for the production of the delegation of IB3 in Madrid, until he returned to Mallorca, where he carried out the role of coordinator of the news of IB3 radio and later on the Producer of the news and sports from the weekends of IB3 TV, other than teaching classes at Escuela EDIB and forming part of a member of the Academy of Science and Arts of the Television.

“I have been a lover of the sea since I was a kid, where I learned to sail in Calanova. Moreover, my parents had a boat, a kayteret 770 made by Company at the shipyards of the bay of Palma, which was called Drac Blau III”, he explains. “Working those years at IB3 I was surprised about the low coverage of nautic from other sports, it is something very striking since we live on islands. That is when I started to think there could be an important business niche”, he points out.

Rec Blau: an honor to a father and a boat

In 2012, the passing of his father made him, in the long run, a stronger person which drove him to leave his comfortable and secure job at IB3 to chase his dream of creating a audiovisual production company specialized in nautic, which he called “Rec Blau” in honor of his father and the sailing boat, in which he lived his first experiences at sea.

“My father died very young. His death made me realize that life is shorter than we think it is and we have to take advantage of it. I considered that I had already accomplished working in what I had always dreamt of, a tv producer, but it did not fulfill me, which did not make sense to keep being at a job where I did not feel passionate about”, he says.

In 2013 Rec Blau was born, in a time of the moment when the cooperative videos were not so democratized as nowadays. With an agile, young and groundbreaking suggestion, the new production disrupted in the nautic panorama with the modesty of a newcomer, but early on clients started to pop up, among them Port Adriano and STP-IPM stood out. “I had the luck to start with powerful clients who gave us a lot of visibility” explains Hellín, who started this new solitary adventure and ten years later, he can count on a team of ten people, among them staff workers and collaborators.

The incorporation of the latest technologies and audiovisual tendencies was from the beginning, branding from the home of the project. In fact, one of the first camera stabilizers and drones for the capture of aerial images which was seen in Mallorca, here in 2014 was Rec Blau.

Passion for the Sea: a multiplatform program

At this point, one of the important parts of the project started: Passion for the Sea, a tv and radio program focused on nautic. The autofinanced program, saw a spotlight in the autonomic balearic radio-television in 2014, as “Passion for the Sea” where you can enjoy it on Youtube and social media. The microphones and cameras of this porgram have been used by over 300 guests, among them some important people from the nautic world, at more than 170 programs of radio and nearly a hundred of tv programs posted until this date.

Once the tv and radio program was consolidated, Passion for the Sea transformed to a multiplatform of nautical content, with a website which is used as a reference to this world with news, a calendar, videos, access to social media and other content of interest. “In 2016, the traditional tv started to be surpassed by new digital platforms. Youtube barely began, Netflix was arriving in Spain, Instagram was appearing to be popular… I decided to design a powerful company, a website with daily updates to merge all the nautical content, in accordance with the tendencies that the sector detected for audiovisuals. Furthermore, we always have a positive content and escape from confrontation. The idea for Passion for the Sea has always been to put a smile on the sea”, he insists.

Nautimedia: the jump to the global nautical communication service

In 2020, with the pandemic break gave the opportunity for Rec Blau to stop a lot of its activity, take stock of what has been achieved and think of new possible ideas to take on in the future. “It was hard times in which everything was moving around, but taking a break and resting a little was very good for me so that I could rethink everything and take new actions calmly”, he points out.

One of the most important decisions for the future was the birth of a new project called Nautimedia. “I noticed that the brand Rec Blau has been somewhat consolidated in the sector as a audiovisual producer specialized in nautic, and Passion for the Sea had already reached a reputation as a multiplatform of nautical communication. At the same time, I felt that our clients other than videos and photos, they needed texts, marketing actions, a social media arrangement,  web design, graphic design… so we decided to take the step and offer packages with all the services from a nautical communication agency. This is how Nautimedia was thought of as a sum of Rec Blau and Passion for the Sea, which provides global nautical communication”, he explains. Some of our clients who use our services are, for example, Club Nàutic S’Arenal, Club Nàutic Portitxol and AENIB.

To be able to make this change I had to create a space to make this content and find a team that would support this project to help moving forward. After ten years the company and the people who are part of it are like a family and it would not have been possible without them.

Party at Falcao Uno

Last Saturday the 8th of July, Nautimedia Communications celebrated its tenth anniversary of the project of nautical communication as reference to the sector. This event was located at the harbor of Palma on a boat with a Dj, food and drinks. Among the guests there were collaborators, friends, family and staff who were commemorating the years of the company.

During the speech of Carlos Hellín he mentioned that the lesson of this project is that we have to take advantage of the crisis and pandemic situation and change them to opportunities throughout the good work done.
