Currently, 38 boats have registered for one of the Mediterranean's most significant high-seas sailing events, which kicks off on Thursday, June 20, from Barcelona and culminates with the impressive in-harbor sailing race in Mahón on Saturday, June 22.
Once again, the Mahón Maritime Club and the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club are joining forces to organize one of the most exciting high-seas races in the country. The event begins on Wednesday, June 19, with participant registration at the RCN Barcelona race office. The race itself starts the next day at noon.
The 38 boats currently registered will embark on a 140 nautical mile journey, approximately 250 kilometers, propelled only by wind. The first boats are expected to arrive on Friday, June 21, depending on sailing conditions.
On Saturday, June 22, the official program will continue with the Puerto de Mahón Regatta, a wind-powered race held within the Mahón harbor, covering about 8 nautical miles. This unique spectacle offers a rare opportunity to observe the crews' skill in a crowded and confined space where every gust of wind is crucial.
One of the most captivating aspects of the Menorca-Sant Joan event is the Trofeo Alfonso XIII. Established in 1912 by King Alfonso XIII, the grandfather of King Juan Carlos I and great-grandfather of the current King Felipe VI, it is one of the oldest trophies in the national calendar. Since 1996, the Mahón Maritime Club and the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club have jointly organized this historic event.
