During the month of September, the coastal cleaning service of the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle removed a total of 4,905.78 kilograms of waste from the coasts of the Balearic Islands, with an average daily collection of 163.53 kilograms.

YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!Mallorca led the collection with 2,396.15 kilograms (79.87 kilograms per day), followed by Menorca with 1,095.65 kilograms (36.52 kilograms per day), Ibiza with 1,005.55 kilograms (33.52 kilograms per day), and Formentera with 408.43 kilograms (13.61 kilograms per day).
The campaign continued using beach-type vessels, designed for shallow waters, and coastal-type vessels, which operate in more remote areas. In total, beach-type vessels collected 2,739.98 kilograms (91.33 kilograms per day), while coastal-type vessels collected 2,165.80 kilograms (72.19 kilograms per day).
During this period, there was a low presence of jellyfish in the bathing areas, with no sightings of the Portuguese man o' war. Regarding waste, plastic was the most common, accounting for 48.78% of the total, followed by wood with 27.88%. In addition, exceptional collections of plastic items, logs, tubes, and boat pieces were conducted. The Ministry responded to three notifications, two of which were handled jointly with the emergency service 112 and Maritime Rescue, while another was reported by institutions and individuals.
This month concludes the 2024 campaign, which was active from May 1 to September 30, with daily operations from 8 am to 3 pm, ensuring the maintenance and conservation of the archipelago's coasts during the busiest season.
