New deficiencies delay the reopening of the Museu Marítim

The lack of evacuation plan and the non-functioning of the fire detection system is added, now, that the fire hoses are not connected to the water supply and the lack of pressure of the pipes in the area, which will involve work.

The Consell de Mallorca detects more deficiencies in the Museu Marítim de Mallorca that will lengthen the reopening period of the Ses Voltes site. 

In addition, the Consell de Mallorca is already working on the elaboration of a new agreement for the transfer of space, since the facilities belong to the Ajuntament de Palma and a concession has to be carried out so that the Consell de Mallorca can use them in a legal way.

The vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councilor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, explains that, during the last weeks, they have been analyzing with technicians and architects the different irregularities in the building since the inauguration in order to reopen it to the public as soon as possible.

However, the technicians in charge of the case have reported more irregularities that will delay the reopening of the Museum. "We have found that the fire hoses, recently placed, are not connected to the water supply and, in fact, a 2018 report already warned that water cannot reach the area due to the lack of pressure in the pipes," explained Antònia Roca. Now, work will have to be done to solve this situation.

Reinforcement of the timetable at the Sóller headquarters

The Consell de Mallorca will maintain the extended opening hours of the Sóller branch of the Museu Marítimo de Mallorca until the Palma branch reopens. Thus, it will be open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm and on Sunday from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.

In addition, alternatives have been sought to all school and association visits that had already been arranged. In these cases, you can go to the headquarters in Sóller or you can also receive the visit of the workers of the Museu Marítim in its facilities. This option has already been carried out in some schools, where workshops have been held.
