However, the lack of wind prevented the scheduled heats from taking place, a situation very similar to the first hours of Monday, when the wind was late to arrive. But there are still two days of racing left, Thursday and Friday, in addition to the final touch of the Medal Race scheduled for Saturday.
"It's a pity that the wind conditions did not accompany us today, but even so, we are very happy to be here. The athletes are happy and enjoying the beach and the club's facilities. The conditions in Sa Ràpita and Campos are magnificent for holding a championship of these characteristics, and great care has been taken with all the details. We hope that this championship will be the first of many," says Gonzalo Costa, class manager of IQFoil and IQFoil Junior.
"Also, the southern area of the Island is beautiful, with the natural park nearby and few buildings. Of course, the weather conditions are excellent, with temperatures of 25 or 30 degrees at the end of October while in northern Europe there are places that are freezing. I am sure that many teams can consider this place as a good destination for winter training, which could represent a great economic opportunity for the area," he values.
"The feedback from coaches, athletes, and class representatives has been very positive," corroborates Miki Bover, sports director of the CNR at this point. "They consider Sa Ràpita an ideal place to sail, especially because of the calm wave conditions and direct sea access from the beach. This has allowed the competition to develop smoothly, even for the 375 participants," he emphasizes.
"The organization of this World Championship has brought more than 700 people to the municipality of Campos, including athletes, coaches, and family members, extending the tourist season and providing a sports and cultural focus. This strengthens the image of Campos as a reference destination in international nautical events, which attract high-quality sports tourism and support the local economy," he adds.
"With the participation of 375 athletes from 35 countries, we are facing a global showcase that places both Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita and Campos on the map of elite youth sailing. This event opens doors for future international competitions and positions the club as a benchmark in the field of light sailing," highlights Nuria Bover, CNR Sailing spokesperson.
