Canoeing is a popular sport in the Balearic Islands, with major Mallorcan figures like Sete Benavides and Marcus Cooper among many others. However, as with any sport, reaching the top is not easy. It requires a lot of effort, physical and psychological preparation, and above all, having the best coaches.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERToday we are going to get to know the coordinator of the Canoeing section at Club Nàutic Portitxol, Omar Calzón, a bit better. After years working in Madrid with the Air Rescue Service (SAR), he decided to settle in Mallorca. Omar was transferred to the island to provide support with the Rescue helicopter, but during that week of work, he fell in love with the island. For the last three years, he has been combining his work in the air force with his other passion, canoeing.
In addition to being passionate about the sea, water sports, and the island, Omar is not superstitious at all as his favorite number is 13. Although he doesn't like to stir up controversy, he has to admit that he is one of the few who defends pineapple on pizza.
