The Canoeing section of the Club Marítimo de Mahón organized this Saturday, December 14, a memorable day of canoeing coinciding with the second Consell Insular Cup for younger categories and the San Silvestre Trophy for juniors, seniors, and veterans, bringing together a hundred athletes.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThe 2nd Consell Insular Cup was a qualifier for the school finals and showcased the high level currently in Menorca by offering several high-level races, such as the two children's races, male and female, with a titanic effort from the participants, as well as the male Benjamin category, where several athletes reached the last buoy very closely matched.
Daniel Cortés, from the Club Marítimo de Mahón, was the winner in the prebenjamin category over 1,000 meters, while Ibai Santos and Gabriel Mora, both from Club Marítmo de Mahón, took gold and silver in Benjamin, followed by Nanuk Marqués from Club Nàutic Ciutadella with the bronze.
In the 2,000 meters Alevín category, total dominance by the Club Marítimo de Mahón with wins for Adriana González and Pablo Cayarga, joined on the podium by Carla Llorca and Asia Rosselló, and Leo Pons and Jaime Montañés, respectively.
In the children's category, Hannah Cook and Pol Tarrega were the fastest over 3,000 meters, accompanied on the trophy stand by Aina Teresa Pallàs and Sienna Hall, all three from the Club Marítimo de Mahón, and by Aingeru Salaverria, also from CMM, and Marc Llompart, from CN Ciutadella.
In the cadet category and over 5,000 meters, the Club Nàutic de Ciutadella took both victories thanks to its athletes Berta Sans and Miquel Llompart, who are currently at the Technification Center and traveled to the Island especially for the test. They were joined on the podium by Claudia Cook and Irati Vidal and Marcos Pons González and Bruno Pons Roca, all from CM Mahón.
In addition to the school test, a new edition of the San Silvestre Trophy for juniors, seniors, and veterans was also contested at the same venue.
In the junior category, the Club Marítimo de Mahón took the top three places, both in men and women, in favor of Ana Carreras, Djamila López, and Angela Mesquida, as well as Alvaro Iglesias, Pablo Espíldora, and Angel Vidal.
In the senior category, Dion López and Claudia Vidal were the fastest, while Alma Rabinerson and Cristina Carreras completed the women's podium, and Isaac Cordero and Juan Catchot, all from CM Mahón, did the same in men. Additionally, Iván Carreras, from Club Náutico Villacarlos, won in canoe over 5,000 meters.
In the veterans category, over 3,000 meters, Pilar Borrás defeated Violant Menorca, both from the Club Marítimo de Mahón, while in the men's classification, Ulises Luque, from CM Mahón, won against Alberto González and Pablo Mascaró, from Club Náutico Villacarlos.
The event also served as a general rehearsal for the Club Marítimo de Mahón ahead of the weekend of February 22 and 23 when it will organize and host the Balearic Championship at the port of Mahón.
