During the extraction of the wooden sailboat, Jaume Carbonell, manager of Ports IB, highlighted the efficient collaboration of the team and the importance of this operation to ensure navigation and protect the natural environment of the area: "The maneuver began with the work of Maritime Rescue, who were responsible for carrying out the entire refloating of the boat using balloons and compressed air. They then towed the boat to an area of the quayside and, using a large crane, brought it ashore. Now it will be time to start the dismantling of the boat, to later take it to the landfill".
The past Monday started the work on the detailed inspection of the hull. At the same time, a specialized team began the fitting of slings to various parts of the vessel, a key step in its refloating.
On Tuesday, the process continued with the installation of balloons on the port side slings and maneuvers to right the vessel. Dredging was also carried out around the keel and slings were passed underneath the keel, stabilizing the vessel with the enabling balloons and carrying out a refloat test.
The decisive phase of the operation took place on Wednesday, when a crane managed to extract the vessel from the sea at around 4 p.m., after two unsuccessful attempts in the morning, thus concluding a process to ensure the safety and protection of the marine environment in the area. The successful removal of this vessel has eliminated a potential risk to both navigation and the environment.
