Extraordinary result obtained by Orden del Álamo, windsurfer and coach of Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, in the European Championship & World Masters Championship of the Windsurfing Raceboard class, which concluded yesterday in Santa Eulària des Riu and in which 57 experts in this sport from many countries around the world competed.
Oren del Álamo, 51 years old, won the title of female world champion in the Grand Master category (over 50 years old), taking second place in Master (over 40 years old) and the title of third in Europe in the absolute category. In addition to this magnificent result, her son Héctor Pérez del Álamo, also from the CNSA, also played a great role, finishing 6th in Europe in the under 23 category, despite being only 16 years old.
The competition, which was held from the 9th to the 14th of October, was marked by the lack of wind, with three races being held on Tuesday and another four on Thursday, which established the final classification, after it was not possible to go out to sea yesterday.
"Being world champion is a great joy, a boost of energy that comes all at once and pushes you to go back out to sea and train harder. Thursday's conditions were finally windy and I went out with a smaller sail, which worked very well," explains the champion. Currently, Oren trains very little due to lack of time, dedicating herself mainly to working as a coach at Es Nàutic, both for beginners and experienced sailors. After obtaining these new titles, Oren, who in February was already proclaimed Balearic champion in the Windsurfer class, is even considering going out to compete outside the island: "The atmosphere generated by the organization is very good. They are attentive to you, they advise you at all times and they are already insisting that I go out to compete outside the island".
The Raceboard class is the traditional windsurfing class and has become an Olympic class. The equipment used by the participants has very broad characteristics, as it is only required that the board has a daggerboard and is standard. The sail can be of any shape and size, as long as it does not exceed 9.5 square meters for the men and 8.5 square meters for the women, although for the under 23s the maximum size is 8.5 meters for both sexes.
